Tahmid Towsif Ahmed is currently working as a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering under School of Science and Engineering of University of Creative Technology, Chittagong. He has been with UCTC since July 2018 after his MSc in Transport Engineering and Planning from London South Bank University (LSBU), UK. He did his graduation from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), Dhaka. With an aim to serve the country and society with his knowledge, he chose the noble profession of teaching to share his ideas among the keen and young civil engineering minds.
As an engineering professional, Tahmid, worked as an industrial safety assessor in Emkay Enterprises Limited from February 2014 to July 2014. Later, he worked as an assistant engineer in Prokausholee Bangladesh Limited for two years and three months until going abroad to pursue his higher study. Tahmid achieved his MSc with merit form LSBU for his outstanding results. Besides, with a vision to serve the society, he was involved with charitable organizations like Bangladesh Lions Foundation and was an active member and general secretary of Leo Club of Dhaka Greater.

Tahmid’s primary interest are conducting fundamental research on accident analysis methodology, new and innovative statistical methods for modelling motor vehicle collisions (including Bayesian statistics) and before/after evaluation techniques. His other research interests include problems associated with crash data collection process, safety audits, risk factors and their inter-relations in accident occurrence and traffic flow theory. In the coming years, Tahmid aims to continue his research with zero-inflated models of highway safety study and effect of sample size and mean, that influences a biased result.
• Evaluation and Development of Public Transportation System for Chittagong City. In this study, we are currently in the survey stage. The survey is considering the user comments, the routes of the public transportation systems and checking the amnesties in compliance with the BRTA standards. Considering the Origin-Destination matrix of the public transport users, the research will investigate the feasibility of the current routes and how to reduce the travel time for each route by increasing the level of service of the public transportation system.
• Understanding the impact of ride sharing in road safety. Ride sharing has been one of most popular mode of transport in Bangladesh, due to its availability and travel time. Motorbikes are the most popular mode of all in bike sharing. However, the increase of the ride sharing is suspected to be responsible for the increasing number of accidents. This study investigates the hypothesis by conducting a Before-After Bayesian analysis and therefore developing a model to understand the impact of the ride sharing. Besides, it also develops an Origin-Destination matrix to identify hot Traffic Analysis Zone (TAZ) and proposing an alternative mode of transport doing a cost benefit analysis.
• Introduction to active transportation in urban life. Active transportation is one of the major issues in the present urban transportation. Active transportation includes a sustainable and environment friendly mode of travel. Walking, cycling has been the most popular of all the active transportation modes. This research investigates the impact of the spatial and geometric conditions that influence the active transportation. This includes studying the safety of the road users, the impact of the built environment on active transportation, environmental and social impact of the mode.
